The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on court had prompted some to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
