Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
